A Bit About Us
Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
Here at The Meeting Place, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings in 1867, we’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded our organisation upon. In 1909 we joined the Baptist Union of Great Britain and are proud to be associated with our sister Baptist churches nationally. We are equally committed to working with all the other mainstream Christian denominations locally, especially our friends at the Parish Church of St John the Baptist, Westbourne.
On our 100th anniversary we renamed the building The Meeting Place after consulting with people in the village to reflect our belief that meeting together is good for mind, body and soul.
The Meeting Place is still operated by Westbourne Baptist Church as part of our purpose to promote the Christian faith. In addition to our own activities, we welcome bookings from all groups provided the proposed use of the building is consistent with our Christian faith.
We have recently had to decline a booking because the proposed use of the Meeting Place included connecting to a “Divine source of magic” inconsistent with our Christian beliefs. It is legitimate for us to decline bookings which promote beliefs which are incompatible with our Christian faith but thankfully this is a very rare occurrence and we welcome the building being used by a wide range of community groups and services, not just overtly Christian faith related. Please contact us for more information.
Whatever your background, we hope you will feel welcome in The Meeting Place and find it a place of joy and peace where a hand of friendship is extended to all.
